ABOUT OUR PRODUCTION
When we were first told regarding the theme for this year's workshop, I immediately knew that I wanted to do something dramatic and heart wrenching. Naquib suggested for us to do a film dedicated to a Sarawakian warrior, Rosli Dhobi. A lot of people know him, but not nearly enough. And his sacrifices deserves to be spoken more, and that was our goal.
Rosli was only 17 years old when he stabbed the new governor of Sarawak, which was Duncan Stewart. It was also the same age when he faced the death penalty by hanging.

His brave action had helped to prove to the British that Sarawakians are not easily fooled by colonizers.

In our film, we intend to show how the history had unfolded. From how he was first recruited to join Rukun-13, until the very day he faces his death penalty.

Being at such young age with no fear and such dedication to protect his country is something we must look up to. Thus, this production was created as a way to always remember him.
BEST SCENES - Lidros : Pejuang Atau Pembunuh

Our Talented Team of Actors

PROP MAKING
Prop making was an extremely crucial step in our production. Because our film is set back in the 1940s, we had to make sure the props and surrounding matches the overall vibe.

We want the audience to be able to feel as if they had teleported back to the 40s and be part of the history.

Our very amazing actor: Hakim.
One of the hardest prop was the Governor's shirt. We had no idea at first how to make it seem exactly like the real one and buying an actual governor's shirt was way out of the budget.
With the magic of a school t-shirt, cardboards, hot glue, tissues and a big dream, we managed to pull it off. And our actor looked extremely handsome in it.

We were all so grateful to have casted very patient and helpful actors.

Rosli's birth certificate that was stolen and wrongfully changed.
Poster Draft
Some of the posters I have created

A film's poster is very important as it is sort of a first impression for the viewers on what to expect in the film. For me, the poster must be able to show the overall vibe, the mood and the issue.
I always like it when a poster shows the main character with elements that best describe the whole story, but at the same time, less is always more.

Final Poster
After a long and intensive session with our supervisor, we are finally satisfied with our poster and it is ready to be printed.

Huge thank you to our supervisor Dr Hafiz for being very patient guiding us on the best font, text placement and all the tiny elements that makes the poster stand out.

Shooting Location
For most of the location, it was easy because we could use public spaces that suits the scene.

But for the prison scene, we know that we have to find a proper location or else the emotion we wish to portray for the audience will not be able to be felt. We had a location in mind, which is the Muzium Penjara Melaka. But we had to contact the officials in order to get a permission to shoot there.

After lots of letters, calls and bargaining we managed to get an official permission for a date! It was a huge accomplishment for our film production.
And the scenes we were able to shoot there contributed so much to the whole theme of our production.

And we found this in one of the pameran room. It was definitely shocking to us but we were happy to see it.
T-Shirt Making

Watching it back as whole, progressive film was definitely a wild ride for my emotions. All the work and sweats we went through in making it happen was definitely worth it.

Safe to say, I am very, very proud of our short film. May Lidros live forever in our heart.
Exhibition Day
18 January 2023

It is finally the exhibition day where we get to present our short film to the judges and the crowds. We decorated our spot with lots of things that best resembles our project.
Our amazing supervisor, Dr Hafiz

Dr Hafiz suggested for us to do a mini stand up of our main characters, and we absolutely loved the idea!

We received a lot of useful comment from the judges regarding the angles, scripting, location and how to elevate the film in a professional way. But overall it was a very positive and maturing experience. We learned so much from both of the judges.
